Landfill methane emissions are the largest source (approximately 33 percent) of anthropogenic methane emissions in the United States.
According to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Americans are generating about 250 million tons of municipal solid waste (MSW) annually. Of that amount, roughly 33% is recycled or composted and 13% is incinerated. The balance, 54%, goes to the landfill. In more personal terms, each one of us generates 4.5 pounds of waste per day and recycles or composts about 1.5 pounds.
Keeping waste out of landfills has become a critical goal for our future. That’s our goal at RiverRoad. We help clients find value in their waste streams by sending less waste to landfills. Recycling and diversion benefit the environment and they benefit your bottom line too.
